yay, i guess

georgia finally has its first dual language school. i guess as a bilingual teacher i should be glad this is happening, but mostly i'm irked that it's taken this friggin' long. how people continually fail to recognize the benefits of bilingualism --especially at a young age-- will probably annoy me for the rest of my life.

Comments:
I live in CA...in a highly Latino populated city/town with NO bilingual education provided. It is unfair!

Un fuerte y caluroso abrazo.
Cuidate!

I live in a somewhat large city. We have a few bilingual school around town but no dual immersion. I started working in a much smaller town close by so that my daughter would have the opportunity to attend a Spanish dual immersion school that they have there. It is a 20 minute drive to work but it is SO worth it. She is now in 2nd grade and is bilingual and biliterate. It is awesome.
In all honesty and fairness it is a luxury for my daughter to be able to go to a school like this. It is a necessity for many Spanish speaking children. Not only will they be able to maintain their native language but they will be ever so much more proficient at the work in English when the time comes.
We need more of these school everywhere!
